INTRODUCTION
Special Camping Safaris Ltd is a family run business specializing in custom made camping safaris in Kenya.
We have been operating safaris in Kenya since 1986 and we can make up the itinerary to suit your needs and interests. This is great for a group of friends, or families with children or couples, as we can incorporate walks, bird watching etc,
and we can custom make itineraries to accommodate children.
COSTS
The charge for a basic camping safari includes transport in 9 seater safari van with pop-up roof for game viewing, services of driver/guide and cook, all camping equipment and three meals a day on safari, and camping charges. NOT INCLUDED ARE THE PARKFEES (USD 60 p.p.p.day in the parks), and items of a personal nature and drinks such as beers/sodas and drinking water.
With 2 people the cost is Usd 210 per day for 2
With 3 people the cost is Usd 300 per day for 3
With 4 people the cost is Usd 390 per day for 4
With 5 people the cost is Usd 475 per day for 5
ITINERARIES
You can make up your own itinerary depending on the time you have available and the interest you have. The safari can depart any day to suit your arrival in Kenya, and there is a degree of flexibility once you are on safari that you do not have on a scheduled safari.
Basically if you have 4 days you can visit Masai Mara (big game) which is a prime destination in Kenya (and not always easy to get to). Not advisable in November and April/May when we expect to have rainy seasons.
If you have 6 days you can add Lake Nakuru (flamingoes & game) and
Lake Baringo (birdlife and wild landscape) in the Great Rift Valley.
And you can add Samburu and Mount Kenya to this basic tour is you have 9 or 10 days available.
Tanzania: there are 2 daily shuttle busses from Nairobi (Via Isenya which is 23 km from Whistling Thorns) to Arusha and back in the morning and afternoon. Cost Usd 25 p.p. one way
A 6 day camping safari in Tanzania is Usd 1295 p.p. including the park fees. Itinerary:
Lake Manyara- Kiboko Tented Camp, 1 nite, Serengeti 2 nites, Ngorongoro 1 nite, Lake Manyara 1 nite KIboko tented Camp, to Arusha. (other nights are in fly camp).
Any other itineraries can be made upon request. It is important to remember that traveling can be tough as roads are not always in a smooth state. Ask us, and we can tell you if your plan is possible to implement. Remember that every
day in the park adds 60 USd p.p. for Parkfees (Usd 20 for children under 12 years of age). There are also nice places to visit that are not in the parks.
UPGRADES:
The basic tour includes camping (with fly tents) and mattresses/sleeping bags and other camping equipment is included. We camp at campsites where there is water (sometimes hot) and there are toilets (sometimes flush toilets). In most places it is possible to upgrade in simple rooms/or permanent tents (with beds) and that attracts an additional cost of Usd 20 p.p.p.night).
FOOD:
Whilst on safari we provide you with 3 meals a day and as a rule that is:
Breakfast: Cooked with bacon/egg/sausage when you are in camp, toast/tea, fruits.
Lunch: Sandwiches & salad & fruit if you are traveling or cooked lunch if camp is set up: i.e. fish and chips or beef burgers.
Dinner in camp has starter (i.e. soup), main meals with fish/chicken or beef, potatoes/rice/pasta/noodles, desert such as apple pie/fruit salad/crumble
The cook always has tea and coffee available for you in camp.
If you have vegetarian requirements let us know so we can supply extra vegetables & fruits (and moussaka/lasagna).

WHISTLING THORNS
Whistling Thorns is our home and is one hour from Nairobi, and 1 hour and 15 minutes from the airport, overlooking the Ngong Hills. Here we have a campsite, comfortable cottages and luxury tents (all untis are ensuite and have mosquitonets).It is a great place to acclimatize before a safari, or chill out after one. There is a swimming pool/ bar & restaurant, you can go for walks or horse riding, have a massage or go on daytrips. All details are on www.whistlingthorns.com
Safaris can depart and end at WT or in town.
If you want to be collected from the airport when you arrive the cost is Usd 54 for a car (up to three people) and Usd 70 for a 9 seater mini van.

CONFIRMATION
We require a deposit of 25% to confirm a safari and balance need to be paid into our bank 3 weeks before safari departure.
